We are loving the hot summer weather we are having here in the UK and as it’s rare for us to get such prolonged sunny days, take note and remember some sun safety tips. It’s so easy to forget to put on sunscreen when going about day to day activities – walking to work, taking the dog out, having your lunch break in the park!
But, protecting your skin and eyes from harmful sun rays is a must and something we must all do. Harder said than done at times, we know. Quality sunscreen and sun glasses do not have to be expensive, however, you do need to know what you are looking out for – so read the small print. Make sure you cover up all those bits of skin with sunscreen that rarely see the light of day!
How many times have you seen someone who forget to put sun cream on their toes, back of the neck or hands – ouch! There is a great range of quality sun protection lotions and potions on the market and you do not need to break the bank to stay safe in the sun. From creams and gels, to sprays and lotions……. use them and don’t get out in the sun and then put it on. Half an hour beforehand is usually best. And, like us, fake not bake, so whilst a sun tan feels great, a soft, gentle colour out of the bottle, when well applied, makes you feel just as good!
Eyes, need the right protection too, not just for wrinkle minimisation! Overexposure to ultraviolet light can cause damage to cataracts, as well as retinal damage and other eye problems, so it is really important to protect your eyes from UV rays. An essential purpose of sunglasses (rather than just looking cool), is to offer 100% UV protection, so no UV light passes through the lens. Sunglasses usually have a category of of 0 to 4 with zero being the highest UV protection between 80% and 100%. So check out those lenses before buying.
We are great pet loves here at TPHC HQ, so please, please look after your pets in the heat – keep them cool and hydrated, cool mats, sunscreen (for sure) and sun glasses)!
Wherever you are and whatever you are up to this summer, enjoy yourselves and as the Australians say “slip, slap, slop”.
